Fascinating. I am curious. Does anyone know what “wanted a Lady on improvement” might refer to?

I thought it was a “help wanted” ad.

That was my first thought as well. But I couldn’t figure out “on improvement.” Perhaps the young Lady suited to the position would be someone from a prominent family in reduced circumstances with extensive knowledge of what is appropriate in dress for various “ton” occasions?

Or a young woman interested in improving her skills, sewing or otherwise. Good question.
